The
village has been established for centuries and the existing Norman
Church close to the pub is testament to this. The pub itself dates
back to the late 1500's when it was a cider house. Its origins as
a hostelry go back along way. The first man of repute to sign the
visitors book was Prince Rupert of the Rhine who lodged here prior
to The Battle of Stow (1646). It is likely that the pub got its name
after the restoration of the monarchy as the area was always notoriously
Royalist. |
